Alfalit International is a faith-based, non-profit entity organized in the United States under the 501©3 charter. Founded over 52 years ago and headquartered in Miami, Florida, we are engaged in literacy and basic education training, nutrition and community development, savings clubs and other activities with a focus on helping the less fortunate in each country. Operating in 24 countries of North, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Portugal and Africa, we provide instruction in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Creole (Haitian) with an annual enrollment exceeding 120,000. For more information, please visit our website at www.alfalit.org.
The Rotary Foundation has been a valuable partner with Alfalit for more than three years. Rotary clubs in Bolivia, Peru, Dominican Republic, Chile, Costa Rica, Angola, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo have been instrumental in supporting the efforts of Alfalit programs in their respective countries in conjunction with Rotarians from 14 different clubs in Florida and Tennessee. Currently, we have five Rotary supported programs underway teaching literacy and preschool.
Today, there are more than a billion people in the world who cannot read, write or do basic math. Monthly Alfalit receives appeals from new areas requesting our intervention, and though understanding our limitations, we try to do everything we can to bring the gift of literacy to those in need.
